Dr. Roger C Sanders

Dr Sanders was born in England and educated at Oxford University where he obtained a physiology degree. His medical and radiology training were at Oxford Clinical Medical school.

In 1970 he went to Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore, MD, on a one-year instructorship. A diagnostic ultrasound system had been presented to Johns Hopkins and Dr Sanders was asked to start using the bistable ultrasound system, the only one in Maryland.

Ultrasound seemed such an exciting area Dr Sanders decided to stay and by 1973 had devoted himself full time to ultrasound. He rose through the ranks to become professor of radiology, urology, and obstetric and gynecology at Johns Hopkins and director of ultrasound.

In 1990 he left Johns Hopkins and founded the Ultrasound Institute of Baltimore - a private clinic that sees referral ultrasound cases. At the same time he became Clinical professor of Radiology and Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Maryland. He is currently Clinical professor of Radiology at the University of New Mexico and Research professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

He moved to New Mexico in 1998 and currently works on a part time basis at the Los Alamos Women's Clinic and the Taos Women's Health Institute performing obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound. He is the author of 16 books on ultrasound and over 150 peer reviewed articles and numerous chapters. Obstetrics, gynecology and renal ultrasound are areas of particular interest for Dr Sanders.

Dr. Sanders recently had the 4th edition of his book Clinical Sonography, a Practical Guide, written with Tom Winter, published by Lippincott,Williams and Wilkins. Amazon Link
